1st BlastCast Podcast of 2011

Update 26 Dec 2014: Unfortunately the website Cinchcast went offline and I didn’t backup our podcasts there, so this recording has been lost. 🙁

Today our fifth graders recorded a short audio podcast about some of the themes and topics we’ve been discussing in Sunday School this year since the Christmas holidays. The audio recording is just over three minutes long.Several photos of our work this morning planning our podcast are available.

Look for the fruit

I love these verses in Matthew 7:16.

“You can identify them by their fruit, that is, by the way they act. Can you pick grapes from thornbushes, or figs from thistles?”

We need to pay attention to “our own fruit” as well as that of others. Plant seeds. Grow fruit. The blessings of the Lord produce the harvest. We are the workers in the field. 🙂

Upendo Kids International: Sharing Christ’s Love in Kenya

On December 16, 2010, our family attended a mission dinner to support Upendo Kids International at our church in Edmond, Oklahoma. UKI is an outreach ministry to Kenya led by Eunice and Robert Menja.

Kenya Mission Dinner

This 5 min, 41 second video was a part of a presentation by Eunice Menja, founder of Upendo Kids International (UKI,) during our program that evening. Eunice told about the summer 2010 mission trip to Kenya and the work of UKI in bringing educational materials and the love of Christ to children in Kenya.

Seven Seven’s

I’m taking a Wednesday night class at church this semester focusing on “Seven Sevens.” Tonight we discussed the book, “The Seven Desires of Every Heart” by Mark Laaser.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d.html/ref=redir_mdp_mobile/175-5179265-9326000?a…

The key verse of the book is Psalm 37:4.

From the NIV:
Take delight in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart.

From The Message:
Keep company with God, get in on the best.

From the Amplified Bible:
Delight yourself also in the Lord, and He will give you the desires and secret petitions of your heart.

From The Good News Translation:
Seek your happiness in the LORD, and he will give you your heart’s desire.

In this sense, delight can mean to commune with God.

A blessing is an unconditional gift

7 Desires of the Heart: To be heard, affirmed, blessed, safe, touched, chosen & included

When we are safe we feel we can truly be ourselves (this is how I feel in my family)

Words can kill

Matthew 5:22

“I’m telling you that anyone who is so much as angry with a brother or sister is guilty of murder. Carelessly call a brother ‘idiot!’ and you just might find yourself hauled into court. Thoughtlessly yell ‘stupid!’ at a sister and you are on the brink of hellfire. The simple moral fact is that words kill.”
