You Have the Power

This is a great meditation on Proverbs 18:21. Our words can bring life and death.

TODAY’S WORD from Joel and Victoria Osteen

Proverbs 18:21, NIV
“The tongue has the power of life and death…”

Our words have the power to lift people up or push people down. We can say something to make others feel better about themselves or make them feel worse. It’s amazing what a simple compliment will do. When you tell someone “You look nice today,” or “Great job on that presentation at the office,” or “I really enjoy working with you,” those simple words will put a spring in their step and brighten their day. It doesn’t take much time and doesn’t cost you anything, yet with your words, you can bless their life.

That’s the power God has given each one of us. Every day we should have a goal of finding at least one person that we can encourage. Let’s be free with our compliments. Point out what somebody is doing right, not what they are doing wrong. There is already enough pushing people down. Let’s make it our business to lift people up, to brighten their day, to make them feel better about themselves. Remember, your words are seeds. When you deposit life and blessing into others, that’s what you’ll reap in your own life in return!

A PRAYER FOR TODAY

Father God, thank You for filling me with Your life-giving power. I choose to use my words to bless others and glorify You. Show me ways to sow seeds of life into others. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.

Don’t Worship 2 Gods

We are commanded to worship one God, the Lord, and not worship at a second altar. What are the altars in our culture which we are encouraged to spiritually exalt? Technology can become an altar for some. Recognition for others. The latest fashions and styles too. Temptations abound.

Do not worship at the feet of any other but the Lord Jesus, who is one with God the Father and God the Holy Spirit.

2 Kings 17:33

“And though they worshiped the Lord, they continued to follow their own gods according to the religious customs of the nations from which they came.”

Today’s lecture hall of Tyrannus

Note how Paul went out into the world and engaged non-believers in discussions about Jesus. Where is today’s “lecture hall of Tyrannus?” YouTube? Facebook?

Acts 19:9-10 NLT

But some became stubborn, rejecting his message and publicly speaking against the Way. So Paul left the synagogue and took the believers with him. Then he held daily discussions at the lecture hall of Tyrannus. This went on for the next two years, so that people throughout the province of Asia—both Jews and Greeks—heard the word of the Lord.

What it Means to Remain in Jesus

John 15:4

“Remain in me, and I will remain in you. For a branch cannot produce fruit if it is severed from the vine, and you cannot be fruitful unless you remain in me.”

Synonyms for the Greek word used here for remain:  abide, dwell, endure, continue, live

We are called to remain in Christ, and he promises to remain, abide, dwell, endure ,continue, and live in us. It is not about what we do for Jesus, it is about what Jesus does for us

The fruit is the nature of the Vine.

Where is your primary union? Where is mine? Where do I abide, abide, dwell, endure, continue,  and live

Thanks to Steve Marsh for sharing these thoughts today in his sermon.

Fractals.tv on Vimeo

I found this video today in Live Events on the YouVersion Bible app. This is a year old, I’m not sure what the current status of fractals.tv is. It is interesting (and perhaps instructive) that there is no reference to scripture in this video. Certainly the focus on relationships sounds good, but where is Jesus in this plan of Christian church growth? Christ isn’t mentioned in the video either.
